Simon presented the transport group’s work and the three main models covering railway, airport and road. The road model is the one that is used most extensively in the Arc analysis, mapping all A roads and motorways to a high level of spatial detail.
The model is designed to help assess impacts of policy interventions such as construction of new infrastructure or expansion of existing, adding extra lanes to existing roads, or introducing a congestion charge. The team also sought to model whether planned road expansions and developments would be sufficient to prevent travel time increases in long run, and energy requirements around uptake of electric vehicles.
