UK major ports demand and capacity assessment for maritime transport

Shu, C.

Maritime transport, defined as carrying cargos or passengers through trading vessels, has been recognized as having the largest capacity and volume of freight throughout recorded history and occupies considerable market share currently as well, although the significance of sea travel for passengers has declined attributable to the expansion of aviation. For instance, according to the data published by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), sea transport might be the most international of world’s industries, being responsible for approximately 90 per cent of global trade via conveying tremendous quantities of cargo cost safely, effectively, cleanly and sustainably. Therefore, sea transport has become indispensable to international economic system.
